Pedro Gómez x Caravaca

Wearing art: Miguel Caravaca’s new canvas, a Pedro Gómez vest.

Pedro Gómez launches an exclusive garment with the Madrid artist Miguel Caravaca. A reinterpretation of the classic jacket worn by the chulapos in San Isidro, converted into a vest, in which the “hound’s foot” is the protagonist, in short: a unique piece that pays tribute to Madrid.

The intersection of fashion and art comes to life in an innovative collaboration between visual artist Miguel Caravaca and fashion brand PEDRO GÓMEZ. They come together through experience to create an innovative, combinable and visually surprising collection of 12 exclusive pieces that can now be purchased until May 31 under pre-order both at El Igloo and through the website.

Each piece is made by hand, with exquisite attention to detail and of course, the unsurpassed raw materials characteristic of the brand. This collaboration represents a significant moment in the world of fashion and art.
It pushes the boundaries of what is possible in terms of artistic expression and challenges the traditional boundaries that have long separated both disciplines.

The concept is rooted in preserving the pattern of PEDRO GÓMEZ’s vests and taking it to the Caravaca universe, with its imagery and references, in this case the city of Madrid. Band patches that wink at the “PUNKS” who wore jackets full of them and that Caravaca crossed every Sunday through the Rastro of Madrid, the artist’s native neighborhood.

On two of the patches you can read “Princesa” and “Goya”, the first referring to the Madrid street where Pedro Gómez spent his childhood, and the second in reference to both the street in the capital and the artist himself. The Virgin of La Paloma covers practically the entire back of the garment, paying tribute to the school where Miguel studied in his childhood, “La Salle de La Paloma.”

On the front you can see a large carnation, the same one that the chulapos wear on their iconic vests. On the front, Goya’s famous portrait of Charles III, one of the most decisive figures for the city, as well as a patch with the image of the Cristo de Los Alabarderos, the image taken out by the Royal Guard of Madrid at Easter.

Also, the initials of “PG” are revealed as a tribute to Pedro Gómez and a lifetime dedicated to the brand, displayed in this exclusive and limited edition. The aesthetic references of Caravaca are preserved. Abstract geometry, especially informalism, exhaustive inspiration from the use of lines and the importance of pigment and composition.

As a final culmination of the collaboration, the artist has personalized the cardboard box where the garment is delivered, hand-painting a version of his famous painting of “La Chulapa”. The magic created by the contrast between both aesthetics is what makes this piece such an exclusive design.

In Caravaca’s own words: “This garment, for me, is a compilation of memories and elements that have marked my childhood and the present moment in the city where I was born. A tribute to Madrid and culture. But above all, an ode to Pedro Gómez and the feathers that we all fell in love with in Madrid in the 90s.”
